Thursday Devotional...6/28/12...What Will I Do Today?

Texting exchange this morning:

Friend: How are you doing?

Me: Pretty good. A friend’s husband died unexpectedly. Sigh. You never know.

Friend: That’s why we need to keep in touch, even if it’s just to say hi!

Me: Right! I get so caught up in all the things to get done. Friends are important to me! I love you, but I don’t think I’ve messaged you except to talk business for weeks. So, I hope you have a great day. I know that God has special nuggets of blessing for us in the midst of our work xoxo

Friend: I love you too! Have an awesome day!

Yes, I know it can feel weird to say “I love you’ to non-family members. But I push myself to say it because in my heart I feel that way. When the unexpected, like death, gets my attention, I sit up and consider what I am doing with my life. What are my priorities and do I have them in the right order?

But he's already made it plain how to live, what to do,
what God is looking for in men and women.
It's quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor,
be compassionate and loyal in your love,
And don't take yourself too seriously—
take God seriously.
Micah 6:8
The Message (MSG)

Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
don't try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
he's the one who will keep you on track.
Don't assume that you know it all.
Run to God! Run from evil!Proverbs 3:5-7
The Message (MSG)

Dear Lord, I know that we will all die and no matter how much we work and plan we cannot control death. I do not desire to be numb to death but please help me to be steady on my emotional feet. I desire that my confidence rest firmly in You. In Jesus name, amen.
