LIGHT

Sunday devotional 2/23/13

Have you ever tried to walk through a room in the dark?  If anything has been moved or changed in the room and we cannot see where we are going, there is a greater likelihood that we will have difficulty navigating that space.  Just a small amount of light from another room or a small night light can make a tremendous difference in the outcome, perhaps saving our shins from scrapes and bruises.

Life is much like that.  If we try to navigate our way through life walking in total darkness, without turning to God as our guiding light, we are likely to come out with injuries sustained from running into obstacles with no hope for a way through.  That is not to say that life with God is perfect, or that the "good" Christian will have no obstacles or problems in their life.  It just means that our path through life's difficulties will be illuminated, and we can experience peace and joy along the way knowing that God is on our side helping us through.

As Christians in the light we gather with one another in fellowship and walk with Christ.  In that gathering with fellow believers we share a common bond.  Through that bond that we share in the blood of the lamb, he gives us the most precious gift of all, purifying us from all sin and giving us eternal life.  He lights up our life and shines into the world through us.

1 John 1:7 (30 kb)

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.  If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.  1 John 1:5-7 NIV
