CHANGE

(devotional for Sunday, 7/1/12)

We all know how hard change can be. Just deciding whether or not to change can create stress.  Even simple little things like trying a new hairstyle or choosing a new lipstick color can be difficult for some women.  Some choices affect our lives in a more dramatic way, such as choosing a different path to take with a new job, or even moving to a new community.  Other changes are more internal, like altering how we feel or think about things, or changing our behaviors. Many people spend years in counseling working on transitions.  Change can be quite difficult.

Time For Change - Freeway Sign

Sometimes it takes being too uncomfortable NOT changing to motivate us to choose something different.  Have you ever gotten something in your shoe that didn't belong there while you were walking?  If it is just a little wrinkle in your sock sometimes you can just ignore it.  But if you are walking for a very long time, even that wrinkle can become very uncomfortable.  It can even cause a blister if you don't stop long enough to straighten out the sock.  Sometimes when you walk in sand, it can work it's way between your toes.  Perhaps at first you just wiggle your toes around, trying to get it to shift so it isn't so irritating. But what if it is a rock in your shoe, and it is underneath the arch of your foot while you are walking along a sidewalk?  There is a pretty good chance that even if you try to get that rock to shift, it will be too uncomfortable to continue walking until you remove it.  Sometimes life situations are much like that.  Unless we become very uncomfortable, we find it easier to ignore the situation instead of choosing something different, even when we know it would be healthier to change.

As hard as it is for us to change, we can be confident that our God never changes.  And this never-changing God of ours can give us the awesome gift of changes in our lives, if only we would remember to ask for his help and for his will to be done.  We have to realize that we cannot do it ourselves, but God can.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17 NIV

The greatest change will come at the end of our lives, and we won't even ask for it.  We only have to remain faithful, which is done by his power also.

Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.  I Corinthians 15:51-52 NIV

Dear heavenly Father, we thank you for being ever constant in an ever changing world.  Please help us to see where we need to change, to let go of trying to do it ourselves, and to allow you to work your amazing power in our lives as we grow and change. For your glory, in Jesus' name, Amen.

Saturday Devotional..."What? Me worry?"

“God is our refuge and our strength."

Do you often find yourself in the middle of an overpowering worry? I know I do, and it is not pretty. I try to remind myself of the definition of FEAR!

F…False
E…Evidence
A…Appearing
R…Real

Let’s look at this acrostic. It needs to be broken apart.

In my experience some FEARS are false and still appear real. Others are right in front of your minds and are far from false. These fears do appear real because they are real. I am going to mention a few fears that people have. Some are personal; some are not. What is a girl to do? Well there is a solution.

“God is our refuge and our strength, an ever present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth gives way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.

Psalm 46:1-2

Most of our fears do not involve mountains falling into the heart of the sea...unless you live in California, that is...LOL! Still, life does give us worries and fears that we deal with all the time.

Here are a few examples of things we worry about:

Scenario #1…
Will there be money to pay for the mortgage payment this month?

This is a real fear if you are having difficulty making ends meet. There is so much challenge these days for families to always be solvent and never have worries about finances. A budget helps, but sometimes even that cannot always rise to the needs.

Scenario #2…
Will I have enough time to get ready for my mother’s visit?

This is not something to scoff at. We want our parents to see us as put together. But the three year old toddler and the one year old twins return the toys to the floor faster than you can get them off the floor. The laundry piles up enough to challenge Mount Everest. Still, the deal is that while the evidence is not false, the reality is that the amount it puts over you causing you so much worry is overrated. Your mother is coming to see you and her grandbabies. If it is not perfect address it when she gets there. Remember, she was once a young mother with the same challenges.

Scenario #3…
Will my adult child ever decide to make God the center of his life?

This is something to be concerned about. Still there is a scripture that says, if you have trained up a child in the way he should go when he is old he will not depart from it. You are a parent who came to salvation after her children have grown up and left the nest. Does this scripture speak to your worry? I believe it does. In my case one of my children had embraced Islam as he was trying to find himself. After a few years he went back to his Catholic beliefs that he was raised in. It is no longer my path, but it is Christian. When I consider the beliefs of another child I tell myself that as a person, “one does not know until she knows.” I did my best and I believe that God loves this child and his family more than I ever could. All will be well. It is a promise of God.

Scenario #4…
Will I ever overcome this addiction (whatever it is) that I have?

This is real and not a false fear which I often feel powerless about. Still I have to believe that He who is in me is more powerful than any temptation or weakness that I have. One who has an addiction problem (big or small) can lean on the fact that it is not by her power but by the power of God that things are done. He has said that; all we have to do is really believe it.

Scenario #5…
Will I survive this cancer diagnosis and be cured?

This is something that happened to me recently. There was a lot of stress. I wondered if it was something that I needed to check out. What doctor would I choose? Will it be deadly? Who is the surgeon and will I like her? What is my future to be? I was blessed. The treatments have rendered me cancer free. It is normal to worry, and I did a lot of it….mostly about side things. I handled it by sharing my thoughts and the process with my friends. I got lots of support and amazing words that touched my heart. Now when people ask me how I am doing I have to remind myself that they are checking on my health. I can happily tell them, “Fine! I am all better.” Will it ever return? At the moment I am choosing not to worry about it.

If I have not touched on your areas of concern you know what they are.

It is normal to worry. It sometimes helps us realize a new understanding of a problem or the need to do something about it. However, we must not let it build into the kind of FEAR that the acrostic shows. That kind of fear is paralyzing at a time when we need to be clear headed and proactive. I do not mean proactive by trying to solve it under your own power.

Go…go…go…even hundreds of times to the Lord.
Let Him be “your refuge and your strength, and your ever present Help in trouble."
And then trust Him.

Friday Devotional...6/29/12...How "God Set The Members …As It Pleased Him" (Vs: 18)

1st Corinthians 12: 14 - 25

14 For the body is not one member, but many.
15 If the foot shall say, because I am not the hand,
I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
16 And if the ear shall say, because I am not the eye,
I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing?
If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
18 But now hath God set the members every one of them i
n the body,as it hath pleased him.
19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?
20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.
21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee:
nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
22 Nay, much more those members of the body,
which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honorable,
upon these we bestow more abundant honor;
and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.
24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered
the body together, having given more abundant honor
tto that part which is added
25 That there should be no schism in the body;
but that the members should have the same care one for another.

I have been taking Physical Therapy (Pool Therapy) over the past several weeks. Today as I looked around at the different people going through their sessions, I became aware of the different needs we all had. Some were there to strengthen their upper body, some for their legs and knees, some for balance after succumbing to a disease that left their body weak. And on goes the list of needs of the body… to strengthen the muscles, stretch tendons, relieve pressure points, gain balance etc. Some had needs greater than others, but all in all; we were all there for one purpose, Our Body!

Jesus likened the members/parts of our body as to each component being very important….not one greater than the other. And so it is in the church, not one member should be of less importance than the other….as we are all made up of one body of believers.

Should the person greeting souls at the front door of the church with a beautiful smile and precious spirit be of lesser value than the teacher? Or should the saint sitting on the pew be of lesser value than the one sitting at the piano? Jesus said Nay! We are all members of his body and we are each important to him whether we be feeble and old or strong bodied in the prime of our youth, whether we can run or whether we walk slow

I’ve heard it said that if a person has a loss to a particular part of their body…whether it’s a loss of hearing or of sight (whatever it may be), they become more sensitive in another area of their body to compensate their weakness. So, whether we are rich or poor, weak or strong, humble or proud, silent or loud….we are all members of one body, the believing members of Jesus Christ the Chief Cornerstone of our being. Can we all pull together? Can we sing with praise and worship to God whether it is on key or off key. Let all who hath breath “Praise the Lord” for we are all members of one body….The body of the Church, The body of Christ Jesus!

Thursday Devotional...6/28/12...What Will I Do Today?

Texting exchange this morning:

Friend: How are you doing?

Me: Pretty good. A friend’s husband died unexpectedly. Sigh. You never know.

Friend: That’s why we need to keep in touch, even if it’s just to say hi!

Me: Right! I get so caught up in all the things to get done. Friends are important to me! I love you, but I don’t think I’ve messaged you except to talk business for weeks. So, I hope you have a great day. I know that God has special nuggets of blessing for us in the midst of our work xoxo

Friend: I love you too! Have an awesome day!

Yes, I know it can feel weird to say “I love you’ to non-family members. But I push myself to say it because in my heart I feel that way. When the unexpected, like death, gets my attention, I sit up and consider what I am doing with my life. What are my priorities and do I have them in the right order?

But he's already made it plain how to live, what to do,
what God is looking for in men and women.
It's quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor,
be compassionate and loyal in your love,
And don't take yourself too seriously—
take God seriously.
Micah 6:8
The Message (MSG)

Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
don't try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
he's the one who will keep you on track.
Don't assume that you know it all.
Run to God! Run from evil!Proverbs 3:5-7
The Message (MSG)

Dear Lord, I know that we will all die and no matter how much we work and plan we cannot control death. I do not desire to be numb to death but please help me to be steady on my emotional feet. I desire that my confidence rest firmly in You. In Jesus name, amen.

Wednesday Devotional..."From Glory To Glory"

One of the scriptures I studied today was out of 2 Corinthians 3:18 which says

"But we all, with unveiled face,
 beholding as in a mirror
the glory of the Lord,
are being transformed into the same
image from glory to glory,
just as by the Spirit of the Lord."

It is the Spirit of the Lord that transforms our lives to reflect the Lord's glory.

The more we sit at the feet of Jesus and gaze into His face and into His eyes, the more the glory of the Lord reflects in us. His glory is brightly reflected in our faces like in a mirror. Jesus so mercifully has removed that veil of sin from us.
The more we spend in the presence of our Lord in prayer and in worship, the Spirit of the Lord will increasingly transform us from glory to glory into the image of the Jesus Christ.

In His Abundant Mercy,
Sandy Billingham

Monday Devotional...6/25/12...Becomimg One

But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted.

John 15:7

I love my husband and I grow closer to him as time goes on. It is a healthy progression of the relationship. I have noticed that the closer we become, the more he and I share a commonality. He is wounded by what hurts me and I am happier over his successes than he is. It is a natural progression of the two becoming one.

When you know someone, love them and work to know them, their desires become your desires; their visions become your visions. The closer you grow, you realize that their dreams have morphed and merged with your dreams until there is no longer any differentiation. Their disappointment hurts your heart and their joys make you sing and dance the happy dance together.

You work toward a common goal. You plan and focus on attaining it. You reach together pull together. It is no longer an effort for yours or mine, but a melded focus of purpose. To put it simply, you want what makes them happy.

So it is with our God, our husband and our bridegroom. The natural evolution of our relationship is growing together. It is what He wants and what I want. It becomes, what He wants is what I want. As I learn to love God, grow close to Him, His desires, His will, His purpose become my own.

When I combine with God, remain in Him, my requests reflect what He wants and His purpose. They are no longer prayers for fleeting objects that fill our world, but rather, for things of eternal value.

LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL

devotional for Sunday, 6/24/12

Light At The End Of Tunnel

I'm sure we've all experienced good and bad times.  As we are coming out of the bad times, sometimes we say we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  By that, we generally mean we are moving toward something more promising, that better times are ahead.  We sometimes jokingly add to the tunnel metaphor, "and it isn't the headlight of an oncoming train!"

Trains are very powerful, heavy machinery.  I don't think any of us believe that we could stop an oncoming train from running us over by standing on the tracks and putting our hands on the front of the engine and holding it back, even if we push with all our might.  Even if the train were to hit a car that had stopped across the tracks, that would not stop the monstrous string of huge cars from moving forward.  But in spite of all it's might, there is a very simple way we can stop the train from running us over - it's something we can do that the train cannot - we can step off the tracks.  Not even the mightiest of engines can step off the tracks to run us over.

Sometimes when we are suddenly confronted with a difficult situation or a triggering event, we are like the person standing on the tracks.  We freeze where we are, or even try to stop the situation or event from continuing, when the simpler solution might be to just "step out of the way!"  We cannot control what other people think, say or do, but we can control how we act, react, or feel about it by changing our thought patterns about the issue.  One action we always can take is to pray to God for help, understanding and power to do the next right thing, even if that is to just "step out of the way."

God can show us the "light at the end of the tunnel" if we ask him to do that.  Sometimes it might require us to turn around if we aren't facing the right direction to see that light.  Or maybe it will require that we move things out of the way that are blocking our vision.  Sometimes we just have to turn the next corner.  Other times it might just be a matter of opening our eyes!  Kinda hard to see the light with our eyes closed.  And when we feel so weak that we don't even feel we can open our eyes, God will give us the power to do that or whatever needs to be done.  Just ask him!

I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth.  These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.  Isaiah 42:16 NIV

Saturday Devotional...June 23, 2012...Opportunity

An Opportunity to Trust God

I saw this graphic and thought long and hard about it.

Do not be disheartened by trials and problems. I am not saying that they are not a trial and hard to deal with. This is hard to do as well. We say we trust God and release the problem  to Him as one would release a helium filled balloon into the atmosphere. The only problem is that before it can float out of reach we are jumping up, catching the string, and pulling it back to ourselves. Here are some examples…some of little import and some really big problems…

You wake up anticipating a fun day in the city with a friend. You have been planning this outing for two months. She calls and says that she has something else to do.

Your son has been living with you for almost a year as he searches for a job. He just got a master’s degree last year and you thought it would be no time until he gots a job. You begin to think he will be a permanent resident at your house. It does not help that he is 35 years old.

Your daughter-in-law is often incapacitated by her Rheumatoid Arthritis. Many days she cannot work. And her husband, your son, has lost his job in a hostile takeover. He wants to retrain for a new career, but cannot because their financial situation is desperate. You and your husband end up giving him money…lots of it…very frequently so that he and his family can eat.

Two of these are serious problems. The first is small. The second was big for a year, but this son finally got a job. The third problem is still a big one to deal with with no solution in sight.

In the Bible it says…

Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
don't try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God's voice in everything you do,
everywhere you go; he's the one who will keep you on track.
Don't assume that you know it all.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Message Bible

So this is our instruction from God. It is so hard to let go of the things that are worrying you. Still, what good does it do to hang onto the worries? We know and believe that God has our best interests at heart. We also know that He has a plan for us to offer us a hope and a future. Still, we are a bit lacking in the trust option. Even when we believe it with every fiber our being,  it is still very difficult to let go of the fear and really trust God.

Father, help us to welcome problems and trials as a part of the offer we make to suffer as Jesus suffered. Even more important, Father, help us to welcome problems and use then as a way to build stronger trust in you and to learn lessons from You about them. Amen.

Friday Devotional...6/22/12...Who Was Humpty Dumpty?

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the King's horses,
And all the King's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again!

Who was Humpty Dumpty?

Humpty Dumpty was in fact an unusually large canon which was mounted on the protective wall of "St. Mary's Wall Church" in Colchester, England. It was intended to protect the Parliamentarian stronghold of Colchester which was in the temporarily in control of the Royalists during the period of English history, described as the English Civil War ( 1642 - 1649). A shot from a Parliamentary canon succeeded in damaging the wall underneath Humpty Dumpty causing the canon to fall to the ground. The Royalists 'all the King's men' attempted to raise Humpty Dumpty on to another part of the wall but even with the help of ' all the King's horses' failed in their task and Colchester fell to the Parliamentarians after a siege lasting eleven weeks.

We were all at one time like “Humpty Dumpty.” For life in general, we sat on a wall… disheartene, in despair, and maybe we experienced a great fall. Perhaps you tried to counsel with friends, relatives, physicians and so fourth (Like the King’s Men)…but answers were hard to come by as it was only a temporary fix of relief as no one could help fix your distress.

It wasn’t till you came to the King of King’s and laid down your life. He picked you up from your wall of failures and destruction and gave you a new heart, a new life and put you back together again. Thank You Jesus!

Daily Devotional...6/21/12...Will I Ever Change?

Every day I blow it. No matter how determined I am to be loving and patient while trusting God and waiting on Him, I never actually make it.

I just finished a conversation with my husband. I was trying to convince him of the best way to handle something that is coming up. Even if I don’t realize I am being manipulative as I do it, he must sense it because he dug his heels in and said we’d talk about this later. I just wanted everything settled and in order. I was just trying to help!

Truth is I am anxious about how everything will come together. How will we manage the details? I like to plan and organize. I struggle with perfectionism but there is a certain level of planning that is acceptable, right? I want to have my ducks all in a row.

Here I am, humbled, as I see the reality of what I am doing: I am trying to fix this, to handle it, to make it better. I do not have the power to fix this. If I did, I would have already done it without checking with anyone! I am completely helpless. I do not like how it feels. My mind keeps suggesting other “ways” that might make things work out the way I want them to! What a mess I am! Even as I sit here ready to repent before God, to ask Him to forgive me, and to lay my burden down, my mind is running around in a flurry of activity as if to say, “No! Wait! I am sure I will think of something!” Hush mind, sit down and be quiet, I will not let you run me in mental circles until I am so distracted I can’t get anything done.

Philippians 4:5-7 New King James Version (NKJV)
Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication,
with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Psalm 37:5-6 The Message (MSG)
Open up before GOD, keep nothing back;
he'll do whatever needs to be done:

Dear Lord, When will I learn? I know I can trust You! I know You care and are watching over me and all that concerns me. When will there be less of me and more of You? I know I can’t do it on my own and that by Your loving kindness You are gently leading me into all Truth about who I am without You and who I am with You. Ah, even my prayers are all about me. Dear God, You know everything about me yet You love me. Thank You. Please help me to be gentle towards every person I meet or speak to this day. Please help me to train my mind to behave itself by praying for each person who crosses my path or comes to mind this day. In Jesus name, amen.

Wednesday Devotional...6/20/12...God's Creativity

God of Marvelous Creativity"

Before our Bible study today one of my friends mentioned that she was a "bird lover." Catherine shared how the Lord had answered a specific prayer request she had asked regarding a very unique bird. One day she had noticed a painted bunting in her back yard and how it delighted her so to see the bird. Now let me share for a moment about this type of bird. They are absolutely brilliant in their appearance. A painted bunting is splashed with bright blue, green and red plumage. In fact they are the most colorful birds on the continent.

Our Lord is truly a marvelous creator. He amazes me to no end!

His word says in Genesis 1:24
Let the earth bring forth the living creatures
according to its kind.!

The painted bunting is definitely according to its kind in a magnificent way, and there is nothing else like it. The Lord God Almighty is a phenomenal creator!

I would like to finish my friend's story on her specific prayer request onto the Lord. She asked the Lord if He would see to it that the painted bunting would be a regular in her back yard. In God's goodness to her He granted her the desires of her heart and the painted bunting shows up every day for her to enjoy. Isn't our God ever so good to each of us!!

Tuesday Devotional,,,In His Image

Psalm 139: 14
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

Have you ever given thought to how unique and how wonderful we as humans are? God has made each and every one of us as a distinct individual. Although God chose to create only two species (Male and Female) yet each of us as separate persons are as different as night and day. Every one of us has a unique genetic code for our DNA make up (DeoxyriboNucleic Acid). We are fearfully and wonderfully made!

Our make up can be compared to the individuality of a snowflake. Every snowflake has its own unique shape and is different than all other snowflakes. However being that all snowflakes have six sides, all snowflakes aren’t always white. Sometimes dust and colored particles from such as factories and earths elements can get into the atmosphere which are absorbed by the clouds thus making snowflakes different shades and colors. Just like we have DNA makeup, snowflakes are made up of ice crystals.

Another example in the uniqueness of us creatures is that of our fingerprints. A fingerprint is one of the most interesting and exceptional features of the human body. The singleness of fingerprints is extraordinary to consider that the possibility’s that two persons will have the same print is next to impossible. Therefore, the fingerprints that you have are entirely yours. They represent your identity as a person. That is what makes you so special. How Cool Is That!

So…the next time you say or think “I’m too Tall, I’m too short, I’m too skinny, I’m too fat or I wish I was of a different nationality” just remember, no matter what color you are, no matter what your size may be >>> Just know that God created us all in his image. And in his sight we are fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are thy works and that my soul knoweth right well.

Monday Devotional...6/18/12...Power and Strength

He gives power
to the weak
and strength
to the powerless.
Even youths
will become weak
and tired, and young men
will fall in exhaustion.
But those who trust in the
 Lord  will find new strength,
they will sour high on wings like eagles,
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not faint.
Isaiah: 40:29-31

He is risen! He is risen indeed!

All around me are cries of people, young and old and in between. “I am tired, life is hard.” I think of my children ages 22-28 expressing their exasperations of life. Even my grandchildren at the young ages of 6 and 8 how they struggle with the challenges of life.

But oh, the faithfulness of God! He says to us “Be still and know that I am God”. His word is truth. How do we put our hope in the Lord? We must hide His word in our hearts.

We must ponder His beauty, the beauty of His creation. I love the mountains, to be surrounded by nature. It reminds me of what a big God we serve. If He can take care of the plants and birds of the air, certainly He can and will take care of me.

He reminds me again and again of His faithfulness. He brings me songs of worship and praise. He surrounds me with love and kindness through sisters in Christ. He lifts me up through His word. There is power in the smallest of phrases, “It is finished”; “Let it be done”.

I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength!

FATHER

devotional for Sunday 06/17/12, Father's Day

All of us have an earthly father, though not all of us know that person.  Some of those fathers are still living, some have passed away, others have disappeared from our lives.  Some of us have or had a great relationship with that father while others do or did not.  Some don't even know who their father was for various reasons, including those with sperm donor fathers.  Some have been raised by a "Dad" who is not their biological father.  However, all of us also have a Heavenly Father who is perfect and loving, but that relationship can be strained too.  It is never strained from God's end of the relationship - only from our human end, because we are NOT perfect.  It is helpful to remember that if we feel God has forsaken us, it is actually we who have abandoned God.  He will never leave us or forsake us!

Father And Baby Hand Silhouette

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you... The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”  Deuteronomy 31:6, 8 NIV

There are a lot of Bible verses with the word "father" in them - some referring to earthly fathers, others referring to God the Father.  There are those that give instruction to fathers and how they relate to their children...

Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.  Colossians 3:21 NIV
Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.  Ephesians 6:4 NIV

There are other verses that give guidance to children regarding their earthly fathers....

“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you."  Exodus 20:12 NIV

And others that give instruction about our relationship with God the Father...

My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in. Proverbs 3:11-12 NIV

The Bible shows us how God is like our earthly fathers....

If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11:13 NIV
“As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.” Psalm 103:13 NIV

And there are verses that confirm that our earthly relationships are not perfect, but our God is, and He cares for us...

Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me. Psalm 27:10 NIV
But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand.  The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless...  You hear, O Lord, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more.  Psalm 10:14, 17-18 NIV

Out of gratitude for this magnificent Father in Heaven, we glorify his name...

The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him. Exodus 15:2 NIV

Though the world often does not understand that we are the children of our heavenly Father...

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 1 John 3:1 NIV

Whatever your relationship is with your earthly father, living or not, known or not, may you remember the Father above and honor him in all you do, especially on this Father's Day.  And may that special relationship shine a light to the world!
