“Do this in remembrance of me...”

“And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me”
Luke 22:19

How often have we heard, or read these words and barely done more than pause and think a solemn, “Thank You Jesus” ; before looking to see if our husband, children or friends were in the correct posture for remembrance?

As women, we often find ourselves acting as the self-appointed overseer of faith-etiquette. After all, everyone knows that our behavior is a direct reflection of our level of salvation…hum…, well, maybe not. But this is where we can get lost and miss our truly personal holy moment with the Lord.

How many times have I sat alone, asking God to speak to me? Wondering why that “still, small voice” is silent. But what if my answers are waiting for me in those moments when I am “doing in remembrance”? What if the Lord told us to share communion so He could speak to us when we are together? What if He wants us to be together in communion for a specific purpose? Not just to remember Him and think about His sacrifice in unified silence. But so the Holy Spirit’s small voice becomes a shout of victory into our collective hearts! What if this moment is missed because of me? Because I was more concerned with how I appear than whom I belong to.

We come together to worship You Lord. We are all together in this celebration, this communion; and we are each alone in intimate abandon with You. We accept these symbols of Your Flesh and Your Blood to remember that while Your Body was destroyed by mankind, Your Spirit was set free to enter into each of us. To give us a true taste of Your glory. To remind us that our goal has never been for this life, but for eternal life with God!

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is,
there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory,
which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
2 Corinthians 3:17-18
