Friday Devotional...6/29/12...How "God Set The Members …As It Pleased Him" (Vs: 18)

1st Corinthians 12: 14 - 25

14 For the body is not one member, but many.
15 If the foot shall say, because I am not the hand,
I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
16 And if the ear shall say, because I am not the eye,
I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing?
 If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
18 But now hath God set the members every one of them i
n the body,as it hath pleased him.
19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?
20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.
21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee:
nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
22 Nay, much more those members of the body,
which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honorable,
upon these we bestow more abundant honor;
and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.
24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered
the body together, having given more abundant honor
tto that part which is added
25 That there should be no schism in the body;
but that the members should have the same care one for another.

I have been taking Physical Therapy (Pool Therapy) over the past several weeks. Today as I looked around at the different people going through their sessions, I became aware of the different needs we all had. Some were there to strengthen their upper body, some for their legs and knees, some for balance after succumbing to a disease that left their body weak. And on goes the list of needs of the body… to strengthen the muscles, stretch tendons, relieve pressure points, gain balance etc. Some had needs greater than others, but all in all; we were all there for one purpose, Our Body!

Jesus likened the members/parts of our body as to each component being very important….not one greater than the other. And so it is in the church, not one member should be of less importance than the other….as we are all made up of one body of believers.

Should the person greeting souls at the front door of the church with a beautiful smile and precious spirit be of lesser value than the teacher? Or should the saint sitting on the pew be of lesser value than the one sitting at the piano? Jesus said Nay! We are all members of his body and we are each important to him whether we be feeble and old or strong bodied in the prime of our youth, whether we can run or whether we walk slow

I’ve heard it said that if a person has a loss to a particular part of their body…whether it’s a loss of hearing or of sight (whatever it may be), they become more sensitive in another area of their body to compensate their weakness. So, whether we are rich or poor, weak or strong, humble or proud, silent or loud….we are all members of one body, the believing members of Jesus Christ the Chief Cornerstone of our being. Can we all pull together? Can we sing with praise and worship to God whether it is on key or off key. Let all who hath breath “Praise the Lord” for we are all members of one body….The body of the Church, The body of Christ Jesus!
