Devotional for 3/5/13

You Are Not Alone
In our lives we go through seasons. In some we experience the hand of God on our shoulder and “hear” Him speak to our hearts and minds. His care of us in these times is such that we experience days of content and well-being. The solutions to problems that arise during these times seem simple. We feel God at work concerning our needs. The answers He gives help us.
During other seasons we may feel as if we are in a desert, and God is silent. We listen for His voice. We wait for His help. We reach out to touch Him, but he does not seem to be anywhere near.  We toss and turn at night unable to sleep. We do not know how to handle the problems that press down on us like an avalanche of rocks. We feel paralyzed without His help.

I have learned that we need to remind ourselves that it is a promise of God that He will never leave us or forsake us.  A Psalmist, who was enduring a dry spell where he felt alone and without God’s presence in his life, wrote...

Your path led through the sea,
your way through the mighty waters,

though your footprints were not seen
 Psalm 77:19

He knew that God was never far, even when he could not feel His presence. Reread the scripture. It contains the truth of the matter. God is always near but it is His path leads us through the sea, leading us through the mighty waters of our problems and challenges. He is there but His footprints are not visible in this wet path that He is leading us through.
God has given us many promises that He will never abandon us.

·       "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
·       "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8
·       "Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5

Throughout the Bible God promises to always be with us and to help with the tests that we face in our lives.
We are never alone. Amazing! Well not really. We serve a God who promises to be with us!

Heavenly Father,
I thank You for your constant presence in my life. This world would be a barren wilderness if You were not here. Help me to remember that You are near even during those times when we cannot feel You. Make me be sensitive to your leading and aware of Your leading in my life.
Amen.
