3/11/14
As I was listening to a song by Third Day this morning,
called God of Wonders, a particular
verse stood out to me, “The universe
declares Your majesty. You are Holy, Holy”.
As I pondered on these words for a while I thought about all the ways
God reveals Himself to us. How can anyone say that there is no God? It takes
more faith to believe that, “lifeless, unconscious atoms came together by
themselves to form living, conscious human beings” and that “the building
blocks of life were produced by blind chance” than it does to believe a loving,
creative God spoke it all into existence.
The idea that earth can even sustain life bears witness
to the fact that a powerful force holds everything into place. For example; if
the rotation of earth had been 1/10 its present rate, the length of our days
and nights would have been tenfold. Everything on the planet would burn up due
to having much longer days and at night everything would freeze for the same
reason. If the moon was closer to the Earth the tide would flood the land twice
a day. How could Earth and everything that dwells upon it all be here by chance?
There are so many things that have to come into play for life to even exist.
If we just look at nature it tells us a story. The sand
dollar is a perfect example. The legend goes like this…
.
There's
a lovely little legend that I would like to tell, of the birth and death of
Jesus, found in this lowly shell. If you examine closely, you'll see that you find
here, four nail holes and a fifth one, made by a Roman's spear. On one side the
Easter lily, its center is the star that appeared unto the shepherds and led
them from afar. The Christmas Poinsettia etched on the other side, reminds us
of His birthday, our happy Christmastide. Now break the center open, and here
you will release, the five white doves awaiting, to spread Good Will and Peace.
This simple little symbol, Christ left for you and me, to help us spread His
Gospel, through all Eternity.
There are several scripture verses in the Bible that speak about creation. The obvious and most notable ones are found in Genesis. However, many more have been written in God’s word.
Job 38:1-7 Then the LORD
answered Job out of the whirlwind: "Who is this that darkens counsel by
words without knowledge? Gird up your loins like a man, I will question you,
and you shall declare to me. Where were you when I laid the foundation of the
earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements--
surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? On what were its bases
sunk, or who laid its cornerstone when the morning stars sang together
praise."
Job 38:25-27 "Who has cut
a channel for the torrents of rain, and a way for the thunderbolt, to bring
rain on a land where no one lives, on the desert, which is empty of human life,
to satisfy the waste and desolate land, and to make the ground put forth
grass?"
Job 38:28-30 "Has the rain a father, or who has begotten the drops of dew? From whose womb did the ice come forth, and who has given birth to the hoarfrost of heaven? The waters become hard like stone, and the face of the deep is frozen."
Job 38:28-30 "Has the rain a father, or who has begotten the drops of dew? From whose womb did the ice come forth, and who has given birth to the hoarfrost of heaven? The waters become hard like stone, and the face of the deep is frozen."
Psalm 104:24-30 “O LORD, how
manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of
your creatures. Yonder is the sea, great and wide, creeping things innumerable
are there, living things both small and great. There go the ships, and
Leviathan that you formed to sport in it. These all look to you to give them
their food in due season; when you give to them, they gather it up; when you
open your hand, they are filled with good things. When you hide your face, they
are dismayed; when you take away their breath, they die and return to their
dust. When you send forth your spirit, they are created; and you renew the face
of the ground.”
Isaiah 40:12 “Who has measured
the waters in the hollow of his hand and marked off the heavens with a span,
enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in
scales and the hills in a balance?”
We serve a
marvelous God who is indeed the God of Wonders. Everywhere we look we can see
His handiwork. Let us praise Him for He is Holy and worthy of our praises. Lift
up your hands and sing along with Third Day.
