Devotional for 5/11/14
There are women in this world who are very special - full of grace and wisdom, love and nurturing, patience and kindness, and most of all full of faithfulness. Actually, every single one of us are special in the Lord's eyes because He created us. We all have the potential to possess these qualities, but most importantly of all to be faithful to Him.
Today is a day set aside to honor mothers. We all have mothers. Many moms have a special place in our hearts. Some of them may have left this earth but still live on within us. We may remember special times with our mothers and the qualities we admire in them. Some of us have had other people in our lives that have the traits of a mother, even though they did not bear us in childbirth. They may have nurtured us in other ways and shown us what it means to be mothering to others. While not everyone has had the blessing of a good maternal relationship with their birth mother, we can seek out those with the qualities we admire and seek to develop them within ourselves. We may have children of our own, or we may find others in our lives that we want to nurture. In the process we may struggle with feelings of frustration or failure. Yet we all can continue to strive to do the best that we can with the resources we have to be the person that God designed us to be - faithful women of God!
“Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. Proverbs 31:29-31 (NIV)

Addendum: In this writing I mention those who have lost their mothers or who have estranged relationships, but forgot to include those who have lost their children/grandchildren (physically or emotionally). But you too ARE special, and God has a plan for you to use those qualities with which he gifted you. Remain faithful and more will be revealed.

You have done such an admirable job of listing the qualities of Mothers who are as perfect as human beings can be and of Mothers who are still working on it. It is an awesome calling and we try our hardest. Happy Mother's Day everyone.
