Today I took two of my
grandchildren swimming at a place that has an inside pool. The water was warm,
but refreshing. After letting the kids swim around for awhile I decided to try
and teach them how to float in water while sitting up, kind of like sitting in
an imaginary chair. The kids were fascinated with the fact that I could sit
perfectly still in water over my head without sinking. I tried to explain to
them that all they needed to do was relax and not think about the fact that they
were in water. "Just pretent you are sitting in a chair", I said.
The kids didn't want any
part of my little lesson and insisted that they couldn't do it without even
trying first. We are kind of like this with our God. We have faith that if we
were to sit in a chair it would hold us up. The chair is something that we can
touch with our hands and see with our own eyes. We don't really think about
whether a chair will hold us up if we sat in it, we just go ahead and sit.
However, when our faith is tested and we are expected to believe in something
that we cannot touch or see, we sometimes hesitate and fail the test. We lack
faith.
Hebrews 11:6 reads,
"But without faith it is impossible to please him:
for he that cometh to God must believe that he is,
and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him".
"But without faith it is impossible to please him:
for he that cometh to God must believe that he is,
and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him".
As Christians, we talk
about all the things we believe, but sometimes our actions contradict what we
say. Do we really believe that God is omnipresent? If so, why do some
Christians say that God has abandoned them in their time of need? Just because
we cannot feel Him moving in our circumstance doesn't mean that He isn't
working on our behalf. Do we really believe that God is omnipotent? If so, why
do some Christians give up so easily and allow the enemy to have his way in
their life?
We need to have faith
and believe that God still sits on the throne and He still answers prayers. We
need to believe that God knows what is best for us and even when things don't
seem to be going the way we think they should be going, God is still in
control. Most of all, we need to believe that Jesus is not dead, He lives!

Song by 4Him -Where There
is Faith
Lyrics
I
believe in faithfulness
I believe in giving of myself for someone else
I believe in peace and love
I believe in honesty and trust but it's not enough
For all that I believe may never change the way it is
Unless I believe Jesus lives
(chorus)
Where there is faith
There is a voice calling, keep walking
You're not alone in this world
Where there is faith
There is a peace like a child sleeping
Hope everlasting in He who is able to
Bear every Burden, to heal every hurt in my heart
It is a wonderful, powerful place
Where there is faith
There's a man across the sea
Never heard the sound of freedom ring
Only in his dreams
There's a lady dressed in black
In a motorcade of cadillacs
Daddy's not coming back
Our hearts begin to fall
And our stability grows weak
But Jesus meets our needs if we only believe
I believe in giving of myself for someone else
I believe in peace and love
I believe in honesty and trust but it's not enough
For all that I believe may never change the way it is
Unless I believe Jesus lives
(chorus)
Where there is faith
There is a voice calling, keep walking
You're not alone in this world
Where there is faith
There is a peace like a child sleeping
Hope everlasting in He who is able to
Bear every Burden, to heal every hurt in my heart
It is a wonderful, powerful place
Where there is faith
There's a man across the sea
Never heard the sound of freedom ring
Only in his dreams
There's a lady dressed in black
In a motorcade of cadillacs
Daddy's not coming back
Our hearts begin to fall
And our stability grows weak
But Jesus meets our needs if we only believe
The children's behaviors of not being trusting of what they are not sure of and being afraid to try is what we do as well. We often fall back and are afraid to trust. I pray that all who are reading this will find it possible to really believe and have faith. This is a devotional that brings much to think about.

Great analogy, and great opportunity to analyze where we are at in our own faith. Truly the trials of life are the great tests, where we have to live what we claim to believe in the good times. Good devotional!
