At The Donut Shop

Waiting in the car, I am looking into the store front of our local Donut shop. My eyes are drawn to a toddler in a pink velour outfit standing beside her daddy at the counter. As he pays for their bag of goodies, the child occasionally jumps up and down, as if happiness bubbles inside of her won't let her keep still.

"How sweet a scene, Lord" I say in my head, "That this daddy and child share this special moment."

He is getting something for her to enjoy and before she even has the treat in her possession she is delighting in his gift. A smile on his face- the daddy takes his daughter's hand to leave the shop- her face is now serious. She grips his hand and lets him lead her out to the sidewalk. Already she has learned, even if she doesn't understand, that when she goes somewhere she should hold on to him.

Such a simple reminder that God has sweet treats for us, even if a moment later, we must walk out and face our world. Like the little girl at the Donut shop, we have Someone we can hold onto. We do not need to walk through any part of this life alone.

As soon as I pray,
you answer me;
    you encourage me
by giving me strength.
Psalm 138:3
NLT

Dear Lord, thank You for using the excitement of a child to remind us of Your delight in taking care of us. Thank You for Your faithfulness. If we hesitate or begin to fear - please remind us that nothing can separate us from Your love (see Romans 8:38) and that You are with us (see Romans 8:31). In Jesus name, amen.
